Feature description

Hello Wave AI developers,

Thanks for such a cool terminal.

I’d love an option for a vertical / side tab bar in Wave Terminal.

Right now, when I have many tabs open, the horizontal tab bar at the top gets crowded and some tabs become effectively invisible / inaccessible. This makes it hard to manage larger sessions or project-based tab groupings.

A few concrete ideas:

Allow the tab bar to be docked to the left or right and display tabs in a stacked vertical list.
Support compact mode (icon + truncated title) so more tabs fit without scrolling.
Optional grouping or indentation (e.g., tabs grouped by workspace or by directory).
Keyboard shortcuts to quickly focus the side tab list and move between tabs.
Reference / prior art (iTerm2)

iTerm2 handles this well with a sidebar tab list:

Tabs are shown in a vertical list on the side, one per row.
Long tab titles are easier to read because they have vertical space.
It scales much better when you have lots of sessions open.
Wave already has great workspace and layout features; a side tab bar would complement those by making large numbers of tabs manageable without them disappearing off the top bar.

Thanks for considering this, and for all the work on Wave Terminal!

Sivakanth.
